The Two Tools I Cannot Live Without

Happy New Year! I hope you had a fabulous welcoming into 2014 and enjoyed a prosperously enriched meal last night. We sure did!

Are you into making resolutions for the new year? I'll have to say it isn't something I like to partake in because it seems like an easy way to set yourself up for disappointment, but when asked I typically say "my resolution is to continue to lead a healthy and happy life." I truly am so lucky and blessed with everything and everyone in my life. I hope to continue to have a healthy family and continue to become a healthier me.

Any resolutions for you?

Today I want to discuss two of my absolute favorite cooking tools I use on a regular basis. I could not imagine living without these tools now that I have them. Seriously, these tools are life savers in the kitchen. I use them every chance I get and especially love finding new uses for them!

Check them out :-)

1. Potato Masher.

Yes. Yes. Yes!! This is my all time favorite tool thus far. It is NOT just a masher for potatoes. No. I don't think I've even used it for it's intended purpose in quite some time. This tool is so, so much more!

My all time favorite use of it is for preparing dishes where meat needs to be broken up. Think tacos, stuffed peppers, chili, etc. Anytime you need to break up ground beef, chicken, pork, turkey, etc. in a pan...grab your potato masher out of the back of your drawer and give it a whirl! It takes 1/3 of the time and you don't have to slave over the pan the whole time its cooking continuing to break the meat up.

2. Spring Action Ice Cream Scoop.

Once again this is so, so much more. In fact, I actually Googled the name of it to see if it was still even called a ice cream scoop! Does anybody use these nice fancy ones to scoop ice cream anyways? I sure don't. I literally have never used this for ice cream!

Use this amazing tool for panning cookies. I promise you will save a serious amount of time on your cookie and baking projects. I used to scoop cookies out of the bowl with a regular ol' spoon and seriously, it takes forever! By the time I am done I have consumed so much of the dough and what's left is typically stuck on my fingers or on the spoon. Okay, its not that bad, but you get the point! This scoop prevents all of those problems and whips all of the dough into perfectly even balls that are ready to hit the oven.

Same goes for cupcakes or individual breads. You can evenly scoop out cupcake or cake batter into your selected pan and not only is it evenly distributed, it takes so much less time! The possibilities are endless with this one.

Another huge use for this is for meatballs. I made meatballs for a dish I was testing out and as I stared upon my bowl of flavor mixed ground beef I was wondering if there was any other way to get these into balls without dirtying my hands. I don't mind mixing the beef and getting my hands dirty, but it is always so cold!!! The light bulb went off and I grabbed my ice cream scoop and I swear, I grinned the whole time. I even sent my mom a picture of my perfectly panned meatballs with an exclamation of my love for my scoop which she bought me a while back. I love it.

A major bonus of both of these tools is you can find them for under $15 each. As I mentioned my scoop was a gift from my mom, but you can find them for right below $15, plus if you get it from a store that offers coupons you can get it for less! The masher is well under $10. If I recall we paid around $6 for the one we have, but I would guess they are between $5 and $10.

Try these tools out and see how much easier cooking jobs can be.
