Hi friends! Long time, no chat ay? I have been busy busy looking for a job, working said job and adjusting to a new schedule. I started working with a big catering company in the area at the events they were hired to cater for. I do all sorts of stuff with them and so far I love it! I am hoping to be able to proceed with this company and continue to learn and grow with them in the future.
With my new position comes an unpredictable schedule. Typically, we will not know what events we are scheduled for until just a few days ahead. They could be morning, afternoon or evening shifts which is what I am getting used to. Tomorrow for example I am working a job from 7am until around 1pm and then an evening event from 4:30 until about 10:30. In order to make healthy choices and continue to lead a healthy lifestyle it is important to prepare!!
Today, I have a few tips for you to help you prepare for the week ahead and to give yourself a leg up on making the right choices when your stomach starts to grumble!
1. First things first...prepping for a smart and healthy week all starts at the grocery store. Rule #1...don't go hungry! You will make all sorts of terrible decisions and not only regret the chips, cookies and snacks you bought, but your wallet won't be happy either. Eat a nice substantial meal before heading to the store. Purchase healthy foods and appropriate foods for your week ahead. Don't buy more than your family can consume in a week or so.
2. Prep your fruits and veggies! After you get home from the store wash, peel, and chop your veggies. Get the hard part done and over with! Think ahead...what are you having for dinner this week? Can I bake some chicken to use for salads this week? Since I already have the oven on can I roast some veggies for dinner this week? Boiled eggs are also a great thing to prep for a quick and protein rich snack. Boil, cool and peel eggs for a convenient snack or lunch item.
3. Store the items properly! Keep your fruits and veggies in snack/sandwich bags or Tupperware at eye level. For items chopped and prepped for snacking I keep these on a higher shelf in the fridge. For veggies and meats prepped for lunches/dinners keep those stored in Tupperware for easy access.
4. Don't waste! Make sure to consume the snacks you have prepared. Don't let them go to waste by making the choice to eat chips instead.
Now you can be prepared to make healthy choices for your meals and snacks throughout the week even with a busy or unpredictable schedule!
Enjoy :-)
